President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has today designated Thursday, November 12, as a government holiday as well.
The President's Office stated that the decision was made because Republic Day of this year, November 11, is a national holiday, and since the day following Republic Day is an official working day, the decision aims to facilitate continuous leave for employees without interruption to holidays.
Although Thursday, November 12 of this year is currently not an official holiday on the calendar, with the President designating it as a holiday today, a total of four days will be off that week, including Wednesday, November 11 and the weekend. That is together with the two days of the weekend.
November 11 is celebrated as the historic date on which the second Republic was established in the Maldives in 1968.
Included among the official holidays of the Maldives, this day is celebrated colorfully on a national level.
